What is a zucchini race?
Everyone regardless of age are invited to participate in the Navan Fair’s very first Zucchini-500 drag race! Decorated zucchini cars of different shapes and sizes will race down an incline track. Bring your own pit crew and cheering section and let the races begin!
Registration:
- Pre-registration is required for all classes. Registration deadline is Friday, July 31, 2026. The registration form can be found on the Navan Fair website.
- Completed registration forms are to be emailed to office@navanfair.ca, mailed or dropped off at the Navan Fair Office, 1279 Colonial Road, Navan ON K4B 1N1.
- The Committee will monitor the number of entries and close registrations if required. Onsite registration on race day (Saturday, August 8) may be available depending on the number of pre-registrations and entries.
Cost:
- CTAS membership is not required and there is no entry fee.
Rules and Regulations:
- One entry per person per weight class. The same exhibitor can enter different zucchinis for each weight class but is limited to one per class.
- Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
- Race participants must be present at race time.
- Zucchini cars must be non-motorized. Pre-fab chassis are not permitted.
- Wheels must be attached by axles that go through the zucchini.
- Zucchini cars must not be wider than 8 inches, including the wheels, otherwise they will not fit on the track.
- Custom wheels (plastic, wood, CD, etc.) are allowed. The entire zucchini width must be within 8 inches.
- Class and zucchini weight will be based on the final decorated zucchini, not the zucchini alone. Reference the Classes section for more information.
- BYOZ! You are encouraged to bring your own zucchini, grown or brought and participate in the pre-race car building workshop. You must provide your own decorations. A limited number of zucchinis, wheels and axles will be available.
- Alternatively, you may bring your pre-built and decorated car, which will be inspected to ensure compliance with the rules. Pre-built cars must be registered and inspected before the races, starting at 1:30.
- The zucchini race car building workshop will begin at 1:00 pm. Races will begin at approximately 1:30 pm.
- Questions – office@navanfair.ca or 613-835-2766.
Classes:
- Pickle weight – 8 inches and under in length
- Middle weight – 9 to 12 inches in length
- Heavy weight – 13 to 16 inches in length
Length measurement is based on the final decorated zucchini car, not the produce itself.
Cars longer than 16 inches will not qualify.
Judges & Prizes
Judging will be based on the fastest zucchini for each of the three weight classes – the first zucchini race car that crosses the finish line wins. Several separate heats may be required based on the number of entries.
1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded to the top three winners in each weight class. Ribbons will be provided following each class.
A ribbon will also be awarded for the “People’s Choice” of best decorated race car at the end of the day
Race participants must be present during the races. Zucchinis are to be picked up following the races and by no later than 5pm race day (August 8). If not picked up, the zucchini will be composted.
